Job Description
JOB TITLE: Junior aCCOUNTANT
REPORTS TO: v.p. fINANCE
DEPARTMENT: Business Office
EFFECTIVE DATE: immediately
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Junior Accountant aids the Senior Accountant and the VP Finance in the operations of the Business Office. This position is a full-time, 12-month position, which reports to and is directly responsible to the Senior Accountant. The employee shall agree to observe the employment and administrative policies of the SDA Church in Canada K-12 Board of Education, those policies of the North American Division K-12 Board of Education which pertain to the operation of Kingsway College, the policies adopted by the Board of Directors of this school, and those laws and regulations of the Province of Ontario which are applicable to this school.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides a role model of successful Christian living for the students.
Interacts with students and models spiritual maturity in leading students towards Christ and their spiritual growth.
Prepares the deposit of all funds received by the school on a daily basis in the appropriate financial institution.
Manages and reconciles the petty cash in conjunction with the Senior Accountant.
Responsible for accounts receivable including; account statements, communication, and collections.
Manages and processes accounts payable invoices and cheques.
Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions.
Conducts reconciliation of departmental budgets and other major accounts on a monthly basis
Posting of account entries into the accounting software.
Serves as secretary for the routine correspondence of the Senior Accountant and/or VP Finance.
Assists the Senior Accountant in the functioning of the Business Office, including supervision of the switchboard, office equipment, maintenance, incoming and outgoing mail, office supplies, Business Office window, and student employees.
Participates in faculty/staff meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops. Also participates in major school events (i.e. fund dinner, preview weekend, alumni weekend, graduation).
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
JOB STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Accounting degrees or diplomas are preferred.
Experience:
Preferably should have at least two years experience in accounting related work.
Skills:
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.
Proficient in computer programs such as Word, Outlook, Excel.
Personable with excellent customer service skills.
Knowledge in the fundamentals of accounting.
Understand the importance of confidential information concerning students and others while maintaining a high degree of integrity and support for Kingsway College.

Available for weekend and evening hours when required.
Currently able to legally work in Canada (possess a current Canadian Social Insurance Number)
